Hemodynamic effects of anemia with and without plasma volume expansion.

چکیده
Hypervolemic anemia and normovolemic anemia were produced in dogs. Cardiac outputs increased comparably with similar degrees of anemia in the hypervolemic and normovolemic animals. No significant association between light atrial mean pressure and cardiac output was found. Right atrial and pulmonary arterial pressures increased in a degree comparable to blood volume increase. Systemic mean pressures did not change significantly; there was a significant decrease in total peripheral resistance. The results are consistent with the concept that the increase in cardiac output occurring with hypervolemic anemia is related primarily to the anemia and not to the increase in blood volume.

Mechanism of Dilutional Anemia
Twenty patients with anemia and massive splenomegaly were studied in order to elucidate the mechanism by which splenomegaly results in plasma volume expansion. In 18 patients, increased plasma volume accounted for most of the anemia. Fourteen patients had an exaggerated renin response to standing, mean 1967 ± 613 (SE) ng angiotensin 11/100 ml plasma (p < 0.05). The mean resting forearm blood fl...

or had significant heart failure. Often the hemodynamic response to plasma volume expansion within fifteen hours after uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction is abnormal, but it is not useful in predicting prognosis. The abnormal hemodynamic response may be transient, improving during early convalescence. It represents an interaction between left ventricular compliance and function, both of ...
متن کاملHemodynamic responses to atrial natriuretic factor in nephrectomized rabbits: attenuation of the circulatory consequences of acute volume expansion.
We investigated the hemodynamic responses to three doses of atrial natriuretic factor [human atrial natriuretic factor-(99-126)] (ANF) in nephrectomized rabbits anesthetized with ketamine and acepromazine. The influence of the different doses of the peptide on the hemodynamic consequences produced by acute volume expansion (0.9% NaCl, 1.4 ml/kg/min for 60 minutes) was also studied. All three do...
متن کاملComparison of blood volume characteristics in anemic patients with low versus preserved left ventricular ejection fractions.
Anemia is a significant co-morbidity in patients with heart failure (HF) irrespective of the ejection fraction and is routinely quantified by hemoglobin concentration. Hemodilution as a cause of anemia has been described in systolic HF. The aim of this study was to further investigate the effects of plasma volume in patients with HF by (1) assessing the prevalence of dilutional anemia in patien...
متن کاملRenal and circulatory effects of large volume plasma expansion in patients with hepatorenal syndrome
Introduction. Hepatorenal syndrome type I (HRS I) may be a consequence of circulatory dysfunction in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension. This uncontrolled interventional pilot study examines the hemodynamic and renal effects of large volume plasma expansion in HRS I. Material and methods. 14 cirrhotic patients (8 m, 6 f, age 60 (58-65) years) with HRS I received large volume plasma exp...
